Obituary of Ella Pomeroy

Biography Winston-Salem-Ella Mae Pomeroy, 72, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2012. She had fought courageously for three years the Cancer that ultimately took her home. She died peacefully as she was surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 11:00AM Friday October 12, 2012 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville with Rev. Garland Glascoe officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. A native of Forsyth County, she was the daughter of the late Viola Myers Crosson and James Leo Crosson. She was married to the late Oscar Lee Hodge for thirty years. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lookabill. "Miss Ella" was a caregiver her entire life and founded God's Open Hand Outreach and Day Shelter in Winston-Salem. She always thought of others before herself. She had continued to care for others throughout her sickness. Survivors include her daughters Vicki Effler and Rod and Pam Brown and Nathan "Willie" all of Walnut Cove; son Richard Lee Hodge and Brenda of Palmetto, Florida; grandchildren Eddie Pennington, Jimmy Pennington, Zach Hodge, and Jonathan Brown; great-grandchildren Cassandra Pennington, Raegan Boles, Levi Pennington, and one Angel on the way; brother Joseph Leo Crosson of Winston-Salem; and numerous extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends from 6-8PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
