Obituary of Clarence Browning

Oak Ridge-Clarence Wilson Browning, 98, passed away peacefully as he was surrounded by his family on June 17, 2012. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Wednesday June 20, 2012 at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Michael Kurtz and Rev. Karen Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors bestowed. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Maggie Preddy and John Franklin Browning. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Institute and later retired from the US Army as a Lt. Colonel. He served during WWII in both the Pacific and Europe. He later would receive a Bronze Star. After he returned from his active duty he served with the US Army Reserves until his retirement from the Army. Clarence worked for Adams Millis Hosiery, in Kernersville, and was the personnel manager when he retired in 1978. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by an infant sister, and a brother Rufus Harvey Browning. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years Juanita Frances Linville Browning of the home; daughter Martha Browning Mullis and Tim of Gastonia; sons John Franklin Browning and Beth of Oak Ridge, and Paul Wilson Browning and Mary of Graham; grandchildren Cory Wilson Browning, Erin Elizabeth Browning, Jordan Franklin Browning, Matthew Holt Browning, and Anna Elizabeth Mullis; niece Helen Martin and Bobby of Kernersville; and nephew Wilson Browning and Lee Ann of Summerfield. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Tuesday evening at the Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, 2424 Oak Ridge Road in Oak Ridge.
