Obituary of Shirley Smith

Kernersville-Shirley Gray Smith, 78, died peacefully on Saturday June 2, 2012 after a long struggle with COPD. Graveside Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday June 5, 2012 at Kernersville Moravian Graveyard. A native of Forsyth County, Shirley was the son of the late Clara Smith and Colon Smith. He graduated from the former Walkertown High School. He worked for the Winston-Salem Police Department before joining Equifax from which he retired in 1988. He was the former owner of Kernersville Driving Range. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and held dear to his heart his Sunday School classmates and his golfing buddies. He was an active member of Kernersville Moravian Church and enjoyed fellowship with the men in his Sunday School class. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Bennett Smith and brother Don Smith. Survivors include his wife Geri Musten Smith of the home; sons Jerry Smith and Michael Smith both of Winston-Salem; Geri’s daughters Lynn Musten and Jan Miller and husband Barry Miller all of Kernersville; grandchildren Zack Smith, Shelley Smith, Amanda Smith, Carleigh Nester, Jacob Nester, and Michael Bauguss; brother Homer Smith of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday night at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home.
