Obituary of Robert Chamberlin

Biography Kernersville-Robert Mather Chamberlin, 93, died September 10, 2013. Graveside Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 12:00PM Noon on Saturday September 14, 2013 at the Battleboro Cemetery in Rocky Mount. A native of Hecla, South Dakota, he was the son of the late Merritt Foster and Margaret Grace Mather Chamberlin. He served his Country during WWII with the US Navy as an Aviator in the South Pacific and flew 37 Missions. He served in the South Dakota State Legislature from 1955-1961. He later ran as the Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor of South Dakota in 1964. He also ran as the Gubernatorial Candidate in 1966 and 1968. He was married to the late Jane Dorothy Pope Chamberlin and also was preceded in death by his brother Richard Chamberlin and sister Barbara Lilla. Survivors include daughter Deborah (Mrs. Gregory Ahlman); son Merritt Chamberlin and Stephanie; three granddaughters and two grandsons; six great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Friday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel.
