Obituary of Linda Carmichael

Linda Strickland Carmichael Nov. 1, 1941 –Aug. 30, 2013 Linda Carmichael died peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem on Aug. 30, 2013. Linda was born in Lexington, NC to Harold and Annie Strickland, graduated from Central Davidson High School and holds a BS in Business Education from High Point University in 1964. She retired in 2005 from GMAC Insurance with twenty-six years of service. She began her business career with Byrd Motor Lines, Inc., Lexington, NC. Linda was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC and was an active member of the Women’s Circle and Bible Study Groups prior to her extended and courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease. She was also a mountain bike rider, loved playing tennis and was an avid reader of many novels. She enjoyed Wake Forest basketball games, Atlanta Braves baseball and long walks on the beach for many years. . She was especially fond of her grand dogs Charlie and Monty. Linda is survived by her husband, Roger Carmichael of the home, son, Gary Carmichael of Folly Beach, SC, daughter, Lauren Carmichael (Doug Simpson) of Greensboro, NC, a sister, Ann Darr (Lester) of Lexington, NC and two brothers, Don (Margaret) Strickland and Phil (Bonnie) Strickland, both of Lexington, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC on Thursday, Sept 5, 2013 at 4 PM. Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson, Rev. Rick Carter and Rev. Dale Hinton will officiate. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Special thanks are in order to the doctors and nurses at FMC Palliative Care Unit and The Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the building fund of Main Street UMC, Kernersville, NC, The Tab Williams Adult Day Care Center, c/o Senior Services, Winston-Salem, NC, or The Kate B.
