Obituary of Hilda Blakemore

Kernersville-Hilda Louise Jones Blakemore, 84, went home to be with her Lord August 30, 2013. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 2:00PM Wednesday September 4, 2013 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Jeff Patterson, Rev. Rick Carter, and Rev. Dale Hilton officiating. Interment will be held Thursday September 5, 2013 in Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairfax, VA. A native of Maryland, Hilda was the daughter of the late Effie Corrine Jones and Millard Fillmore Jones. She was married to the late William Kinzer Blakemore for 49 years. She was her High School Valedictorian at Bel Air High School, Class of ’45 in Harford County, Maryland. She graduated from Mary Washington College of Virginia Class of ’49. She later taught fifth grade for about five years. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia where she lived for 42 years. She later moved to Kernersville and became a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by her son Robert Kinzer Blakemore, sister Anita “Sis” Jones Marshall, and a brother Charles “Buddy” Jones. Survivors include her son Richard William Blakemore and his wife Nancy Edwards Blakemore of Kernersville; granddaughter Michelle Renee Blakemore Vance of Archdale; cousins Phyllis Kessler and Gary Boyd; niece Marcia Weidler and Roy of Fairfax, VA; great nephew David McArthur and Karina; and several extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church on Wednesday in the parlor of Main Street UMC.
