Obituary of Dorothy Flynn

Kernersville-Dorothy May Williams Flynn, 87, passed away on Thursday August 22, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday August 28, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kernersville with Father Paul Dechant, O.S.F.S. officiating, with burial to follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. One of eight children, she was the proud daughter of dairy farmers, the late Ila May Simons Williams and Elwood Williams of Rainsburg, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs School in Hagerstown, Maryland, and her career as an executive secretary began at Fairchild, which produced aircraft for World War II. Before retirement she assisted the head of corporate banking at Wachovia in Greensboro, North Carolina. A devoted Roman Catholic, she was active in the Holy Cross parish in Kernersville, where she was a member of the Quilters Group and a volunteer at the Shepherd’s Center. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Flynn, Jr., who was active in the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, a chairman of N.C. Travel Council and president of Southern Innkeepers Association. She is survived by her loving family, which includes her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Janey Flynn of Winston-Salem; daughter Dorothy Flynn of Cambridge, Massachusetts; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Annetta Williams of Bedford, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Kerry and Kevin Flynn of Kernersville and great-granddaughter Roxy Przybylowicz. The family will visit with friends from 6PM – 8PM Tuesday August 27, 2013 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel in Kernersville.
