Obituary of Paul Whicker

Kernersville-Paul Willard Whicker, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2013 following a long battle with Dementia. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held 11:00AM Monday August 26, 2013 at Kernersville First Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Stephen D. Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gur Cemetery. He was born on June 7, 1923, the second child of the late Zella Willard Whicker and the late Leo Oliphant Whicker. He fought in World War II, during which he was stationed in Germany, where he drove a tank. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Following the war, he became one of the Triad’s preeminent car dealers, working with Hometown Pontiac and Buick, then with Hartsoe-Whicker Motors, and later as the owner of Paul Whicker Motors in Kernersville. At the time of his retirement, he was working with his son at Larry Whicker Motors of Kernersville. Whether selling used or new cars, he was a well-respected businessman with many repeat customers. He was married to the late Clara Lee Whicker from 1951 until 1972, and he also was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Stafford who died in 2009. He is survived by two sons, Larry Steven Whicker of Colfax (daughter-in-law, Renee Marshall Whicker) and Jeffrey Scott Whicker of Cary. Additionally he was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Whicker and Elizabeth Ryan Whicker, and two great-grandchildren, Summer McKenna Whicker and Leighton Emerson Whicker; two brothers Leo Oliver Whicker, Jr. and Joseph Wesley Whicker, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove for their compassion and concern during his stay there. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Sunday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Forsyth or the Carolina Field of Honor.
