Obituary of John Svedek

Kernersville-John Paul Svedek, 72, passed away August 10, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 5:00pm Thursday August 15, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Paul Dechant O.S.F.S. officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, John was the son of the late Mildred Fisher and John Svedek. He served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Volvo North American. He served his church as Financial Director of the church and the Child Development Center. He also was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He also was a First Degree Knight of Columbus. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Rose Marie Gamble Svedek of the home; daughter Kim Svedek James and Jeff of Winston-Salem; sons Gregory Svedek of Eden, Ron Svedek of Minot, ND, and Jeff Svedek of Kernersville; grandchildren Melanie, Melissa, John, Shannon, and Jacob; great-grandchildren Brayden, Davis, Liam, Abigale, and Zane; sister Corinne Svedek of Ohio; and numerous extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service, and also immediately following the inurnment service, at the church.
