I just found this notice, so my sincere condolences to Marie's family. My father, Dr. Marvin Rydberg, shared the other half of the duplex in Grand Cayman with Marie, so my family and I grew up spending many vacations with her when I was very young. My fondest memory is when it was raining (who wants to go to the beach in the rain?), and Marie and I would do puzzles for hours. Marie was a treasure, and I will treasure my memories.

We are grateful that Marie's family let us know about her passing. We first knew her in Canon City, Colorado when she was a member of Rob's Church. She introduced us to Peaceful Valley where she led square dancing. (A little while ago we went up there and sent her a few pictures.) She was always a very loving and cheerful person and we valued her friendship over the years. We will meet again in heaven.
I knew Marie's ex-husband Don Armstrong, and step-daughter Terry Armstrong-Stanley, and was privileged to get to know Marie in her 90's and meet her husband David Stewart. I am a folk dancer, and took Marie to a contra dance in Greensboro to let the folk dance community give her a tribute (the last dance she attended, because of her vertigo). I was honored when she gave me some of the dance material she and Don had used years ago. I also interviewed her for the Square Dance History website. I was thrilled for her that she was reunited with David after all of those years apart, and that she was able to live independently until the end. I was also the doctor who took care of her in the emergency department after her fall shortly before she died. I feel privileged to have known Marie and her family.
