Obituary of James Rees

James Robert Rees James Robert Rees, 88, died March 29, 2012 of natural causes and surrounded by loving family in Greensboro North Carolina. As a youth he was a star football player for Ohio State University, N.C. State, and the Navy. He married his college sweetheart Patricia May Cummings, the love of his life for 67 years and mother of their four children. He served as a meteorologist in the Navy and earned his B.S. degree in Earth Sciences from North Carolina State University and his M.A. in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His career spanned work as a scientist with the Ohio Reclamation Association reclaiming strip-mined land, a teacher of agriculture, a soil scientist for the Soil Conservation Service, and a visionary ecology activist in his community. He is survived by his wife Patricia Rees and son Dai Rees of Greensboro; daughter Kathy Kalanyos and husband Imre of Chapel Hill; daughter Rebecca Rees of Middletown, California; and son Evan Rees, wife Cheryl, and grandchildren Jennifer, Kristopher, Brent, and Ashley of Miami, Florida. At his request, his ashes will be scattered on Pilot Mountain.
