11/15/2012 - Ed, Beth, Sydney and Sarah Jarrell
Cheryl, Jennifer, Emily and family - We will miss Walt so much as we know you all will. If seems only yesterday that Ed and Walt worked together in KFD and they were referred to as twins. We were so glad when the two of you married and knew that life was truly happy for the four of you. We know firsthand that a child does not have to be born to you to reside in your heart - Walt knew this as well. He will be so missed by this entire town - both on a personal and professional level. Please know that we are thinking of you all and know Walt is looking down on you with that sly smile and that twinkle in his eye.
11/13/2012 - Brian Griffin
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cheryl and family:
We know life will be more lonely now for all of us. Walt was a good friend and colleague. The community as well as his family will miss him sorely.
The one thing that always struck me about Walt is that he looked at life with the photographer's eyes and I always appreciated the integrity, humor and honesty of the man---my friend.
Fair winds and following seas Chief...

11/10/2012 - Allan Asbell
Dear Cheryl & Family:
Just a note to let you know I also share in your loss. I met Walt a few years ago and we established an immediate friendship as we had two things in common, photography and we both had worked for a newspaper. Over the years we became closer and I approached him with the CAC Fire Hydrant Painting Campaign, he loved the idea and we did it together, he alsways told me how proud he was to get it done. I was with him on Monday in his office and he again told me how proud he was that we got it done. He was a gentleman and a good friend, someone I will never forget. God Bless you and your family,
Allan Asbell

Dear Cheryl, Jennifer, Emily & Family:
In 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 God is called the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. May you lean on him to cope with your separation from Walter. Most of us are sympathetic to the difficult job that firemen have and their self-sacrificing spirit. Many more should have been the days where Walter enjoyed his gift of life and merrily associated with family and friends. The Bible describes a time in the future when all mankind will not be subject to criminals, violence, accidents, sickness and death. Everyone "will actually sit, each one under his vine and under his fig tree, and there will be no one making them tremble." Jehovah God promised that soon, he will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. (Micah 4:4; Revelation 21:4) May these words bring you solace, delight and help you cling to a measure of happiness and joy from your fond memories of Walter.

Typing Class - November 9, 2012
Posted: November 9, 2012 | Last Revised: November 9, 2012
I just read about Walter. So very very sad.
Walter and I first met in elementry school. The last time I saw Walter was when we were classmates at A.G. Junior High School in Charlotte.
I remember just like it was yesterday. Walter and I were in the seventh grade, standing in the hallway at school discussing what elective class to take that we could pass. "TYPING!! Lets take TYPING!", we said. Walter and I sat beside each other in typing class and gave each other support and made each other laugh often. After passing TYPING I, the next year we both decided to proceed to TYPING II, and we passed that too!!
Thanks for the great memories Walter.
