During the 1993-94 school year, I was blessed to be placed as a student teacher in Dianne's 5th grade class at Piney Grove Elem. I recognized immediately the gift Dianne possessed as a educator, mentor, and friend. Ever since I have always tried my best to emulate her style and practices in everything I do in my classroom. I last met with Diane in 2002. I wanted her to know just how much she had encouraged and impacted me. In her special way, she deflected all praise. Anyone can count the number of seeds in an apple. Only God knows the number of apples in a seed. Dianne will always be an inspiration for me... I will try to keep her legacy alive in the classroom.

Ms Williams was my 2nd grade teacher back at Kernersville Elementary School over 20yrs ago. I still remember her warm hugs and sweet smile. She was my favorite teacher. I still saw her occasionally out an about in Kernersville throughout these years, and she always remembered me, and I always got that warm hug I remembered as a second grader. I recently heard of her passing and I wanted to express my deepest sympathies to the family of my favorite teacher and friend.

I will miss Dianne more than words can describe. From the moment I met her in college I knew we would be great friends. She was the greatest roommate ever, and we had the most exceptional times back then. Dianne was so beautiful and so much fun to be around!! I will never hear a Fleetwood Mac song without thinking of her. Through the years we always had each other's back. I'll miss our long discussions about teaching, spirituality, life, and love. Peggy and Roger were the greatest parents and made me feel like family. I know Dianne is healthy and having a blast in heaven, but there will be a hole in my life until we meet again. Dianne, your courage and absolute willpower will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with Peggy, Debbie, Cindy, Eric, Kayla and Haleigh. The love and care you showed Dianne is a testament to her as well as your own beautiful souls.

Dianne was one of the first people I met at Union Cross Elementary when I was hired to work for her during a medical leave a few years ago.
Dianne warmly and generously lead me through her classroom like it was her home. Being far from my home in Vermont, I felt comforted by her welcoming spirit. When I was with Dianne, I knew that God had blessed me by giving me the opportunity to meet her.
Beyond leading me through a grade level that I had never taught, she asked me to share about myself and about my family. It was more important to Dianne that she knew who I was and not what I knew. This is how she treated everyone she came in contact with. It's no surprise to me that she was a very successful teacher.
I am forever grateful for the times we spent chatting in her classroom, and for being honored to work in her "home."
My prayers are with her family & my friends at Union Cross Elementary.

Dianne:
I came by to see you as you were 'going home' Tuesday morning. But, of course you know that.
You never knew what a positive influence you were to me. Your strength and faith seemed to transfer to me each time we talked. I thank you for that, which has made me a better person for knowing you.
My love,

Diane was a good friend. We shared a special group of friends from Jr High to High School. Diane went to sleep in Winston-Salem and woke up in Heaven.

I sure loved her kind heart and warm smile. She made everyone feel special--especially her kids. As the memorial said, Heaven is a brighter when she entered. She will be missed!

I have known Diane for many years and have seldom met someone with her spiritual qualities and desire to live life consciously and with integrity. We were in a sharing group together and got to know each other very well.
Diane had my full admiration because of her deep desire for harmony, caring and sharing love with everyone around her. She knew about her illness and her body's affinity for cancer, but her courageous spirit always lifted her up and she affirmed her blessings more than bemoan her disease. Her spirits were clearly on the positive side of life.
Her teaching occupation consumed her and it is no surprise that she was honored as "Teacher of the Year." She loved all her students and her dedication to them was complete. Other than her students, she enjoyed her grandchildren, and, when we were together, she talked endlessly about them, their achievements in growing up, and her total love for them.
I can truly say that few people I know combine charm, sincerity and depth of character, and joy in living the way Diane did. I know she is in a good place. She lived her life well. I shall never forget her and I owe her much for what she taught me about life.

When I remember Dianne, I recall a special friendship that has lasted over many years. I ran into her back in 2005 and our conversation was as if we were in high school again. As I sit here and look into her face I see such love and kindness for all people who knew her and my heart is filled with sweet memories. Dianne, it was an honor to know you. I am sorry you had to suffer but I know you rest in the arms of the great healer. May God bless your family and others in this time of loss.

WHAT A RAY OF SUNSHINE DIANNE WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE! I TAUGHT WITH HER AT KERNERSVILLE ELEMENTARY FOR MANY YEARS.IN FACT, MY ROOM WAS ACROSS THE HALL FROM HERS... SO I SAW HER GENUINE HUMAN KINDNESS ON A DAILY BASIS. SHE WAS CALLED TO BE A TEACHER, NOT ONLY OF STUDENTS, BUT TO ALL WHO ENCOUNTERED HER.
SHE WAS A TRUE FRIEND AND I AM SADDENED TO HEAR OF HER PASSING. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HER FAMILY AND WILL KEEP THEM IN MY PRAYERS.
I'M SURE SHE HAS A GROUP OF HAPPY CHILDREN IN HEAVEN, PROBABLY SKIPPNG AROUND ON A CLOUD NOW!

Dear Nana,
You were my favorite Nana and I loved you.
I wish you were still here but I know you are better off in Heaven as Haleigh says you are probably drinking milk and eating honey with the angels.
Love you
Kayla

So very sorry to hear of your loss. Dianne was my son's third grade teacher and I can honestly say I believe she was called to be a teacher. Daniel absolutely loved her and tried hard to do well for her. And he never forgot her, when he was older he stopped by her classroom to say hi on several occasions. She was truly a gift to the children she touched.
