Obituary of Mary Catherine McKeel

Biography Kernersville-Mary Catherine Carden McKeel, 82, passed away June 25, 2013. Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held 11:00AM Friday June 28, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Kernersville with Pastor Dr. Stephen D. Martin officiating. Interment services will follow at 2:00PM at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Lelah Conklin and Allie Carden on September 19, 1930. She graduated from the former Burlington High School Class of 1948. She later graduated from the North Carolina Hospital Nursing School in 1951. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Alamance General Hospital from 1951 until 1962. She later worked at the VA Medical Center in Durham and she received her BS degree in Nursing from NC Central University in 1970. She retired from the VA Medical Center in 1990. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville and faithfully served in the choir and was a member of the Shirley Walker Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by sister Dorothy Carden Coble, brothers Frank Eugene Carden, and Arthur Gaston Carden. Survivors include her son Coleman Garner and his wife Liza of Kernersville; grandchildren Catherine Garner and Sally Garner; sister Allie Mae Phillippie and Glenn of Burlington. The family will visit with friends from 5-7PM Thursday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel.
