Obituary of William Culbertson

Kernersville-Rev. William L. "Bill" Culbertson, 90, went home to be with the Lord May 14, 2013. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel. Interment will follow at 4:00PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A native of Cross Hill, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry Grady Culbertson and Anna Hester Richie Culbertson. He served his Country during WWII with the US Army serving in the South Pacific. Upon return of his service, he finished his education at Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He married the former Frances L. Nivens on September 18, 1948. He attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a Baptist Minister serving Powderly Baptist Church in Powderly, Texas, College Park Baptist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Boulevard Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, and First Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina. He was serving those churches before retiring in 1990. For a few years after retirement, he taught at Montgomery County Community College in Troy, North Carolina and pastored at Eldorado Baptist Church in Eldorado, North Carolina. He moved to Badin Lake in Montgomery County after retirement where he lived for 20 years with his wife, Frances. Because of his declining health, they moved to Kernersville and in March he entered the North Carolina Veterans Nursing Home where he died. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a brother Tab Culbertson. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Frances L. Culbertson of the home; daughter Ann Flynn and Bill of Kernersville; son Billy Culbertson, Jr. of Colorado; grandchildren Brady Flynn, Kenley Flynn, Emery Flynn, and Jamie Culbertson; sister Ellen Sullivan of Mississippi; brothers Grady Culbertson of South Carolina, and Bobby Culbertson and Tricia of Florida; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends at 10:00AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 and please designate for research purposes.
